How to Promote Wellness in a Corporate Workplace

Workplace wellness programs have received plenty of attention over the past few years as a way for companies to reduce total insurance spending by promoting long term employee health. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 83% of large firms (200+ employees) offer a wellness program in smoking cessation, weight management, or behavioral/lifestyle coaching. Of these large firms, 42% offer financial incentives including lower premium contributions and cash for employee participation.

 

The opportunity to reduce total insurance spending is just one perk of promoting wellness in the workplace. There are many other benefits that have been noted, including:

According to Harvard Medical School, common mental health problems often manifest as physical health issues. Depression, anxiety, and stress can lead to headaches, fatigue, muscle tension, heart palpitations, or trouble sleeping.
